OFFSHORE

This has been a very strange summer for fishing in the Sebastian area. We have had very cold water temperatures followed by extremely hot water temps. This has caused some strange patterns with the gamefish and the bait we use to catch them. The bottom fishing has been completely shut down from a 100 feet and shallower out of Sebastian. The top water bite on the other hand has been insanely good. We have been loading the board with Kingfish and mahi with a few bonus cobia and sailfish mixed in. I haven't seen this many mahi in the ten years I've been running charters out of Sebastian Inlet. We have been getting most of our fish on live bait between the depths of 50 and 90 feet. Bait and clean water have been the key to loading the box

INSHORE

The inshore fishing has been very hit or miss. The lagoon has had a resurgence of grass over the past 4 months and its already paying dividends! Loads of pinfish and blue crabs have inhabited the grassy areas and the redfish have been hot on their tales. There have also been a few snook and trout in the mix as well The snook will eat well at the inlet one day but won't touch anything you throw at them the next. Croakers and big pilchards have been the best baits of late. They should start settleing into their fall pattern in the next couple of weeks and then the bite will be on. The tarpon bite off the beach has gotten worse and worse every summer and this has been no exception. If you can find a few fish then you have to struggle to get them to eat, that being said mullet and threadfin herring are the go-to baits.

Snook Season is Just around the corner! Don't forget to book your September filet show fishing charter for a chance at a fat Sebastian slot!
